Ba Gua · Eight Trigrams & Yi Jing

The eight trigrams, Later Heaven arrangement and 64 hexagrams.

Eight Trigrams 八卦 (D.1)
The Ba Gua (Eight Trigrams) form the foundation of the Yi Jing (I Ching). Each trigram is made of three lines — solid (Yang ━) or broken (Yin - -) — representing cosmic forces, directions, family members, and natural phenomena. The Later Heaven arrangement (後天八卦) by King Wen is used in Feng Shui; the Former Heaven (先天八卦) by Fu Xi for divination.

Life Gua 命卦 — Personal Trigram Number (D.3)
The Life Gua (命卦) is derived from birth year and gender. It determines a person's auspicious and inauspicious directions, and divides people into East Group (東命 Gua 1,3,4,9) or West Group (西命 Gua 2,6,7,8).
MALE 男 — How to Calculate

1. Add the last two digits of birth year until a single digit.
2. Subtract from 10 (if born 2000 or later, subtract from 9).
3. If result = 5, use Gua 2 (坤) for males.

FEMALE 女 — How to Calculate

1. Add the last two digits of birth year until a single digit.
2. Add 5 (if born 2000 or later, add 6).
3. Reduce to single digit. If result = 5, use Gua 8 (艮) for females.
